Today, I embarked on a slow-motion journey, inspired by the title of a book I just bought, "The Things You Can See When You Slow Down." Although I haven't read its pages yet, my day seemed to unfold in a leisurely pace, allowing me to appreciate the little wonders around me.
As I skimmed through the latest volumes of Detective Conan and Attack on Titan at Gramedia, I couldn't help but immerse myself in the joy of reading my favorite mangas. Lost in their captivating worlds, time seemed to stand still.
However, amidst the pages, a glimpse caught my eye—a book different from the mangas that surrounded me. Intrigued, I decided to purchase it, defying my usual habit of contemplation. Sometimes, certain things simply capture our attention without needing days or weeks of deliberation.
Fueled by curiosity, I embarked on a search for a pen and small notes, reminiscent of my high school days. I wandered through the aisles of Gramedia, retracing the familiar steps I once took as a younger version of myself. It was during this nostalgic stroll that I noticed a girl wearing my old high school uniform. The age gap between us must be about five years, and I doubted she knew me. For a fleeting moment, I entertained the thought, "Perhaps she knows who I am?" Memories of my high school achievements surfaced, but I soon reminded myself that the world doesn't revolve around me. Not everyone must know my name. That's what I tried to convince myself.
In that moment, another memory resurfaced—the Gramedia date with my junior high school friend that took place during our first year of college, after years of being apart. She is an introvert, and I, an extrovert. Yet, our differences seemed to complement each other perfectly. We haven't met again since then, but I hold onto the hope of visiting her city this year. She remains one of my dearest friends, and the bond we share transcends time and distance.
With a desire to savor the moment, I longed for a cozy café where I could open my notebook and let my thoughts flow. Initially craving a cup of tea, I found no empty seat with an available plug. Serendipitously, I ended up in a café that held memories of past rendezvous with my significant other, from years long gone. Here I sit, reminiscing.
Although they were out of hazelnut, the drink I used to enjoy here, I settled for a refreshing strawberry smoothie. As I sip on its fruity goodness, I can't help but feel grateful for the precious memories I hold. I am content in knowing that my happiness stems from the simple pleasures in life. It is not always found in grand gestures or extravagant events. True happiness resides within us, and it is often the small things that bring us the greatest joy.
Today, as I slow down and observe the world around me, I realize that beauty lies in the details—the moments that pass by unnoticed when we rush through life. So let us take a step back, breathe, and embrace the little wonders that surround us. For it is in these moments of stillness that we can truly see the world and find the happiness that resides within.
