I asked my successful professor for advice on how to find my passion and maintain consistency, hoping to gain some insight into what seemed like a daunting task. However, his response was simple: "Passion is something I like, just know about it, and consistency is difficult only at the beginning. Just do it." I couldn't help but wonder, is it really that easy?
As a writer, I often struggle with motivation and consistency, even though I love what I do. Sometimes, I find myself procrastinating or trying out other things, like singing or dancing, instead of focusing on my writing. It's not that I don't enjoy writing, but sometimes I lack the motivation to start or stay consistent.
My professor wasn't wrong, but his perspective didn't fully address the complexity of finding passion and maintaining consistency. While it may seem simple in theory, these things can be challenging to put into practice.
I believe finding passion is not always straightforward. It's not just about knowing what I like; it can involve exploring multiple interests and discovering what gives my life meaning and purpose. It takes time, self-reflection, and experimentation to figure out what I'm truly passionate about and how to incorporate it into my life. It's also not always easy to turn my passion into a career or find ways to integrate it into my daily routine.
Similarly, maintaining consistency is not just about willpower or forcing myself to do something repeatedly. Many factors can affect my ability to stay consistent, such as motivation, environment, and habits. Even if I start off strong, life can happen, and it can be challenging to keep going. It takes effort, discipline, and a willingness to adapt and adjust when things don't go as planned.
Passion and consistency are complex issues because they involve various psychological, emotional, and environmental factors that are unique to each individual. For me, writing has been a passion since elementary school, but it's not always easy to stay motivated and consistent, especially when life gets in the way. I've come to the conclusion that it's essential to recognize that it's okay to struggle with these things and that it takes time, effort, and self-awareness to develop and maintain them.
Then, I can't help but think about the process of baking a cake. Just like finding passion and maintaining consistency, baking a cake may seem simple in theory, but it requires attention to detail, patience, and a willingness to adapt when things don't go as planned.
When baking a cake, I have to first determine what kind of cake I want to make and gather all the necessary ingredients. Similarly, when finding my passion, I have to explore different interests and determine what gives my life meaning and purpose. It's not just about what I like; it's about what resonates with me on a deeper level.
Once I have all the ingredients, I have to mix them together in the right proportions, paying attention to the recipe's instructions. Similarly, when maintaining consistency, I have to establish the right habits and routines, paying attention to what works for me and what doesn't. It's not just about forcing myself to do something repeatedly; it's about finding what motivates me and what helps me stay on track.
But even when I follow the recipe to a tee, sometimes things can go wrong. The cake may not rise or may come out dry. In those instances, I have to be willing to adapt and adjust. Maybe I need to add more liquid or reduce the baking time. Similarly, when maintaining consistency, life can happen, and it can throw me off track. In those instances, I have to be willing to adapt and adjust my approach. Maybe I need to change my environment or revise my goals.
As the famous poet Maya Angelou once said, "Nothing will work unless I do." Finding my passion and maintaining consistency require ongoing effort and attention, just like baking a cake. But with patience, perseverance, and a willingness to adapt, I can create something beautiful and fulfilling, both in the kitchen and in life.
Overall, finding passion and maintaining consistency require ongoing effort and attention. There's no one-size-fits-all solution to these complex issues, but by being honest with ourselves about our interests and motivations, setting realistic goals, and staying focused on the bigger picture, we can increase our chances of finding and sticking with our passions over time.
